Playlist, Week of 2018-05-13

Sun Ra's Pleiades: a rediscovered classic... his only (?) recording with chamber orchestra... Irwin Chusid and company have done a remarkable job of cleaning up this recording... I have the old Leo 2-CD version, and it's almost unlistenable (this from someone who has a high tolerance for bootleg sound!) -- Chusid has rebalanced the instruments so it doesn't sound like the tabla is right inside your eardrum, the strings now have vibrancy and presence, and the sax solos are more prominent... it's an entirely new listening experience! ...More new Anthony Braxton releases available and streaming at Bandcamp... I love the piece for 100 tubas!...
