Excellent show last night from Tim Berne, with Gregg Belisle-Chi on guitar and Tom Rainey on drums. This was the first time I'd seen Rainey, and he was a pleasure to watch. Berne's knotty compositions were the perfect framework for Rainey to build slowly-evolving sound constructions. Rainey is not a timid player. Berne's razor-sharp tone was in full effect. A fascinating show, and a great appetizer for Big Ears...
