Playlist, Week of 2022-08-21

Shades is my absolute favorite of all the Keith Jarrett "American quartet" (often a quintet, of course) albums... everyone just plays brilliantly on this... so much to learn from Paul Motian... Neil Young nails it again with Noise & Flowers... I'm quite fond of the material Prince wrote for female singers like Sheena Easton, Mavis StaplesElisa Fiorillo, and Taja Sevelle... "If I Could Get Your Attention" should have been a hit... Nice to hear Cecil Taylor with electric guitar... Still floating my boat: Anthony Braxton...

Playlist, Week of 2022-07-31

Live at the Apollo Vol. II is still some of the greatest live James Brown you can get, especially the sequence on side 2... what I'm talking about...  While I'm reading these Prince books, I'll no doubt be listening to a ton of Prince and Prince-related grooves over the next month or so... no better way to get ready for that than to listen to some JB.... it's getting to be a hot summer...
